McKinley was the first of her family to graduate from college with an Agricultural Business degree from Oklahoma State University (OSU). She began her career as a Coop student working for the Soil Conservation Service while a junior at OSU.

Kristie spent her first year working in the Oklahoma panhandle in the heart of the area devasted by the Dust Bowl. As a Soil Conservationist she worked with farmers and ranchers on the Great Plains program where she learned how to survey terraces and design and plant field windbreaks. She also worked with local schools teaching soil conservation which inspired her love of teaching.”

“Kristie transferred to Iowa soon in 1995 to begin working her husband’s 160 acre family farm. She owned and operated the family farm and worked for NRCS for 10 years while in Iowa. During this time she held many positions such as Soil Conservationist, Field Office Computer Software (FOCS) Coordinator, Toolkit Coordinator and District Conservationist. She was the State SWCS president and served on the NRCS CRAC committee for several years.”

“Kristie moved to Texas in 2005 and has enjoyed teaching classes for the National Employee Development Center, served as a Project Manager for the Integrated Data for Enterprise Analysis (IDEA) and currently serves as a Natural Resources Specialist on the Enterprise Business Initiatives team where she is the Team Lead for the Conservation Desktop – Technical Assistance software application that will replace Customer Service Toolkit.”

“Kristie currently serves as the North Texas SWCS Chapter President and the Fort Worth Federal Women’s Program Manager.”

“Kristie and her husband Mike own and operate McKinley Construction and Roofing where Kristie serves as the Vice President. She is the proud mom of son’s Grant and Zach and spends most of her free time watching them play sports.”
